MSC Cruises is a biggest private cruises company in the world. His history started more than 300 years ago with Aponte, a family of ships owners and captains from Sorrento. In 1970 Gianluigi Aponte young sailor and ex bank teller established the MSC and in 1973 there were already 3 cargo ship in the fleet of the company, which in 1988 started with cruise’s sector.
Now MCS Crociere is an european company employing over 47,000 people worldwide, selling cruise holidays in 69 countries and register over 2 millions passengers per year.
One of the most important target for its business sustainability is to reach zero emissions for all operations on earth and sea.
As part of a larger project aimed at energy efficiency of the MSC divisions present in Italy, the customer asked us to obtain energy savings at his logistics center in Genoa dedicated to food supply, and then extend the application also to other centers of the group and ultimately to the cruise division.
The Project
In April 2019, the client installed an EP-X 400 A device at the MSC Food&Beverage Division logistics hub in Manesseno, Genoa. The warehouse operates with all the logistics management of MSC divisions: Food & Beverage, shop, technical, photo, casino, medical, deck, machines. In addition, it also takes care of the logistics management for the GNV fleet with regard to food & beverage. The logistic complex has an area of about 10,000 square meters, of which 5,000 warehouse 12 meters high with 1,150 square meters of cold rooms at +04 ° and -20 °, for a total of 8,000 pallets.
The power peak detected in the 12 months prior to installation was about 250 kW, for an annual consumption of around 950,000 kWh.
The configuration of the electrical loads present in the Manesseno pole turns out to be as follows:
• Air conditioning/UTA/compressors : 70%
• Non-Inverter Machinery: 10%
• Electronic standard light: 15%
• IT Devices/Computers: 5%
